Hey there Wholetonians!
As we approach the end of August and summer, I find myself looking forward to the changes that will come with the transition into Fall. I look forward to the changing colors, the crispness in the air, and to be completely honest, I look forward to the end of the threat of hurricanes and tropical storms to our area that are always a part of our summer season. I’m thankful that this season is only temporary.
In fact, everything in this life is ultimately temporary.
If there’s one thing that we can learn from the seasons it’s this: The one constant in life is change. We have the different seasons of our calendar year, and as one season wanes and moves to the next, we begin to (sometimes subconsciously) prepare for the changes that the next season brings. It’s even evident in the world of commerce; the department stores have taken down their bathing suit displays and replaced them with mannequins wearing sweaters, pants and boots even though many parts of the country are still experiencing heat waves.
Just as we have calendar seasons, we also have a variety of seasons for the span of our lives.
“There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens…” ~ Ecclesiastes 3:1
Some of the changes and seasons are positive, full of laughter and joy. Others seem negative, filled with pain and tears. They are ever moving, ever changing, but never ending. They signal the need to move forward, to embrace, and prepare for change.
In Philippians 3:13, the Apostle Paul encourages the reader to forget “what lies behind: and press forward to what lies ahead.” But in whatever season you find yourself, this is still a season in which God has a plan for you. Lean into it. See and take the opportunity to prepare for physical, emotional and spiritual growth.
It’s not always for us to know the outcome, but we can hold on to the One who does know the outcome, and promises to never leave us through all the changes and seasons of our lives. He is the only constant and never changing part of the equation. He is the sure anchor that holds us through every season of change, no matter how bumpy. So hold fast!
To everything (turn turn turn)
There is a season (turn turn turn)
And a time to every purpose, under heaven
