The Keys of Life

Hey there Wholetonians!
I would like to start off by thanking you for all the kind words of sympathy and the condolences that we received after last week’s Tuesday Musing.
Lillian and I were deeply touched by the thoughtful messages we received from so many of you. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!
I imagine that everyone reading these words has experienced loss in some way or another and has traversed the paths of grief. But even in times of sadness, there are spots of joy and beauty and music.
I once heard of life being compared to a piano: how the white keys represent happy times, and the black keys represent sad times. As we go through life’s journey, we need to remember that the black keys make music too. All the keys work together to create a masterpiece with highs and lows and tempo changes that are uniquely our own experience and song.
We may not have the ability to choose which keys are playing right now. If the dark keys are what is presently playing and bringing sadness and pain, we can embrace it knowing that they have incredible value.
The dark keys are often what shapes and refines us. Lessons learned during loss have the potential to test our thoughts, beliefs, and feelings on many topics. They can reveal to us areas that we may have taken for granted, or they can suddenly shift our perspective and priorities. It’s in these darker tones that we appreciate the brightness of the other keys as they play out. Musically, it’s from the lows that the notes begin to change and climb upward into an amazing crescendo.
Both sets of keys are important. Without both, the melody of life is incomplete.
And so, I thank you again and want you to know that your sweet messages added bright music to our day. As we all lift our songs to The Great Composer, He somehow takes all our sharps, flats, highs and lows, and makes a beautiful symphony out of them.
God bless you, friends.
