Finding Truth in a World of Lies
Part 2

We’re picking up where we left off last week.
If you missed it, you may want to go back and find last week’s email where we discussed and set a foundation for separating truth from lies. We talked about how it’s increasingly becoming more difficult for so many of us to navigate through the onslaught of information being thrown at us at a dizzying pace.
I covered what God’s word says about where truth comes from and where lies come from.
Using that knowledge, here are three ways we can find truth in a confusing world of lies:
- Limit your intake of media. This is how we control our diet–what we feed our minds. Whether it’s newspapers, social media, TV, phone or computer, ask God to help you set limits to how much time you devote here.
- Increase your intake of God’s Word. A friend of mine suggested that for every 5 minutes we spend listening to news and scrolling our phones, we spend 20 minutes reading God’s Word, the Bible. God’s word cleanses, refreshes, instructs and encourages us. It’s an anchor for our minds and souls. Unlike the everchanging news, His word is eternal and unchanging.
- Ask God to help you discern the truth. If we’ve asked God to adopt us into His family through Jesus Christ, we are not left alone here as orphans. God’s Holy Spirit guides us if we’re attentive to Him so we won’t be fooled by the latest trend, celebrity claim, or any political platform’s stance.
Why does the truth matter? Because when we don’t have it, we spend our time trudging through mud, sinking in quicksand and groping for help but never really finding anything of substance to grab hold of. God placed in us a desire to know truth, and He is our supplier. We hunger for truth and if we ignore the One who IS truth, Who gives truth, then we are subjecting ourselves to be fed a banquet of lies and fear.
“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it more abundantly.” ~ John 10:10
God’s word is Truth that renews our minds and transforms us from being quivering, conforming, fearful people to confident joy-filled people, having the wisdom and discernment to know truth from lies and to receive from a loving God what is good, acceptable and perfect.
“Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.” ~ Romans 12:2
I hope you find these tips helpful so you can stand firmly in truth through these increasingly shifting, topsy turvy times.
Sending you much love…
Be Whole,
