Love the Ones You’re With by Michael S. Tyrrell
December 12, 2017
Christmas Greetings Wholetonians,
It is the most wonderful time of the year!!!! I confess … I love Christmas. This year, my wife Lillian totally outdid herself; the house looks absolutely amazing. And, of course … Wholetones Christmas is playing on the stereo. In fact, I listen to it often (not just during the Christmas season). 2017 has been a very challenging year for many, and I, for one, am looking forward to a Merry Christmas and a magnificent New Year!
I just returned from San Diego, where I took my Mom for her Christmas present. I think I enjoyed Mom’s present as much as she did! We packed so much fun into 6 days, and laughed—a lot! So, I am going to be very transparent regarding this week’s musing, “Love The Ones You’re With.” Fact is, we are all too busy, and the ones who suffer because of it are our families. Bottom line: either you run a business or your business runs you.
I did some soul searching recently, thinking about how much I had travelled over the years away from the ones I love to conduct business with people with whom I don’t even have a relationship.
Why do the ones we love always get our leftovers, after the business world gets us at our best? At 35,000 ft., I am staring at the women who brought me into this world, and I am grateful she always made time for me! Which brings me to my point, short and sweet: take time to love the ones you’re with, especially at Christmas.
Here are a few tips for getting the most out of your time with friends and family at Christmas (or Hanukkah):
- Lose the cellphone. Keep a basket at the door to collect these impersonal, divisive devices.
- Resist the temptation to bring up politics. Just don’t do it (trust me on this one :)).
- If you are driving home, don’t drink too much. Know your limit; remember that Uber, Lyft, and taxis are cheaper than a DUI.
- Listen more than you speak. That way, everyone gets a turn.
Make sure you have Wholetones Christmas playing in the background. If someone starts getting obnoxious, put 639hz “The Bridge” on repeat.
- And finally (most importantly!), don’t forget whose birthday it is!
Jesus is the reason for the season. Take a little time to go around the room and have each person share what/who they are grateful for, and why. Then, when everyone has had a moment to share, thank the Lord Jesus for coming into the world to seek and save that which is lost!
It is my heartfelt prayer that you would be overwhelmed with the true “Spirit of Christmas” during this holiday season. Thank you for believing in me, supporting Wholetones with prayer, and sharing my music with your friends!
Be Whole,
Michael S. Tyrrell
