Happy Tuesday, Wholetonians,
Mission: The definition of a mission is being sent to complete a specific task or is a group of people sent somewhere to promote the peoples' lives in some way.
Control: The power to influence or direct peoples’ behavior or the course of events.
You see, when you hear the term, “mission control,” you immediately think of NASA, movies about the space program, etc. I want to shift your thinking for a moment by changing the way those words appear to “Mission: Control.” To be clear, your mission is what you were created to do—something organic, something profoundly personal, something that only you can accomplish to make the world a better place.
But now let’s talk about control. I am amazed how many people I meet who refer to themselves as “control freaks.” They are actually just freaks! As much as people love to feel as though they are in control, the truth is … we are never in control of anything.
If we actually had control, we would never be surprised, have an accident, receive a speeding ticket, have a bad hair day, lose our phones, stub our toes, etc., etc., etc. We don’t even have control over our next breath or heartbeat! My friends, here is the truth: God is in control … period! Fear, insecurity, pride, and arrogance (ego) are usually the impetus behind the illusion of being in control. When I realized this truth, it was amazingly liberating. If God is in control, I don’t have to be!!!
A perfect example of this is the 2003 movie, Bruce Almighty. In the movie, Jim Carrey portrays a television reporter who thinks he can do a better job running the world than God. The end result is his hilarious, epic failure to do so! When we think we can run (control) our lives, better than the God who created us, we too, are headed for an epic failure. So dear friends, the sooner we “let go, and let God” and surrender our need to manage our mission, the sooner God will bring it to pass. In fact, when I finally learned this lesson and got out of God’s way, Wholetones was born! When God is running the show, there is no more need to worry about your life. Remember, we never lose control, because we never had it in the first place!
“Do not worry about your life, what you will eat; or about your body, what you will wear. Life is more than food, and the body more than clothes. Consider the ravens: They do not sow or reap, they have no storeroom or barn; yet God feeds them. And how much more valuable you are than birds! Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life? Since you cannot do this very little thing, why do you worry about the rest?”
Until next week…
